OVERVIEW
The Green Ladies

During 2013 & 2014, Sustrans hosted a non-competitive social cycling group through their office hub located in the Caerphilly Visitor Centre called the Green Ladies.
The purpose of the group was to encourage women of all ages to get out and cycle! Through personal training on closed circuits and quiet lanes, we provided opportunities for individuals to improve their cycling skills and increase confidence through a relaxed and casual environment. As a Sustrans volunteer, I acted as a route planner and ride leader focusing primarily on the use of traffic-free routes on the National Cycle Network.

This page provides an overview of the ladies cycling group organised through the Sustrans Hub in Caerphilly. The goal of this group was to encourage women of all ages to cycle. Additional training was offered to improve riding skills and confidence. As a certified ride leader and Sustrans volunteer; I acted as the primary lead, whilst Sustrans staff provided ride support and route planning for all of the excursions. Group sizes averaged from 4 to 5 women, but on occasion there were 10 to 12 riders with one ride leader and at least one assistant ride leader. All rides focused primarily on the use of traffic-free and shared-use cycling paths of the National Cycle Network.

Sadly, the Green Ladies cycling group came to an end in December of 2014 when Sustrans closed the hub in Caerphilly. However, we shared some wonderful times together thanks to everyone involved.
